With Hermosa and Manhattan Beaches just to the north, Redondo Beach is one of the beautiful “sister beaches” of the South Bay and a highly coveted place to call home. Its small community vibe, sandy beaches, friendly people, and excellent schools provide a perfect place to raise a family.

Living here you’ll get to enjoy year-round sunshine, ocean breezes, wonderful parks, and breathtaking sunsets. Locals and visitors alike love strolling the quaint shops and restaurants of the Redondo Beach Pier, feeling a world away from the urban bustle just minutes away in Los Angeles.

The city’s 6.2 square miles was originally native Chowigna land that was used as both a lookout and a source of fish including halibut, lobster, and sea bass, and locals still fish from the pier every morning.

If you are looking for a laid-back beach community with amazing restaurants and an excellent school district, Redondo Beach will exceed all of your expectations..

The Community

With a population of just over 70,000, people from all walks of life love the peaceful Redondo Beach community, whether they are young families, urban professionals, yoga instructors, surfers, or retirees relaxing in their ocean view homes.

The city is divided into two distinct areas. South Redondo lies along the beachfront and features the pier and marina complex and small business district. North Redondo is a mostly residential area situated just inland of Hermosa and Manhattan Beaches, with notable attractions like the South Bay Galleria and the Redondo Beach Performing Arts Center.

Both areas feature fantastic restaurants, great indie coffee shops, and fun activities like concerts in the park, movies on the beach, and two weekly farmers markets that bring the community together.

The Redondo Beach School District is known for its deeply dedicated teachers, a wide variety of sports teams, and student clubs that prepare students for success. In fact, Charles Lindbergh is an alumnus of the local high school!

The Culture

The beautiful white-sand beaches are the star of Redondo, and its well-known breakwall made it one of the first and most sought-after surfing spots in the country.

You’ll see professional beach volleyball players practicing on this stretch of sand that provided backdrops for Baywatch, The O.C. and Pirates of the Caribbean.

Fun activities like riding a bike along the coastal trail, taking a sailing lesson, or getting a scoop (or two!) at Handel's Homemade Ice Cream contribute to Redondo’s laid-back vibe.

Urban professionals will love coming home to this peaceful community where they relax and watch the sunset from a patio after a long day. Weekends are full of sunshine and family fun at the Seaside Lagoon water park, shopping in Riviera Village, and fresh seafood dinners overlooking the peaceful blue Pacific.

Lifestyle

Start the day with an early kayaking or paddleboarding session followed by matcha and avocado toast from Hi-Fi Espresso. On weekend mornings, play a game of tennis or racquetball at Alta Vista Park, then enjoy a delicious brunch at Wildflower Cafe.

Take the kids to explore the forest and watch the turtles in the pond at Hopkins Wilderness Park, where you’ll feel like you drove just 5 minutes to Big Bear. Rent electric bikes to explore your new community, book a yoga or pilates class, or peruse the landscape photography at Jill Sanders Gallery.

Visiting family and friends will enjoy going whale watching or sport fishing and exploring the many shops and cafes on the pier, then enjoying a relaxing afternoon over delicious clam chowder at Quality Seafood or oysters and bloody marys at R/10 Social House.

Happy hour aficionados will love the Spanish food, handcrafted cocktails, and people-watching at Gabi James. At the end of any day, kick back, watch the sunset, and delight in living in this wonderful beach community.
